EMDR Rocks Consultation Groups
EMDR Rocks groups are structured to provide general EMDR consultation or groups specifically for therapists working towards their certification in EMDR. All groups are designed to help therapists grow in their understanding and application of EMDR therapy while learning alongside other trauma-focused clinicians.
The group combines:
- Case consultation
- Clinical teaching
- EMDR case conceptualization
- Problem-solving for challenging cases
- Collaborative professional discussion
- Enhancing the understanding of the eight phases of EMDR
Therapists leave each session with practical tools and insights they can immediately apply in their clinical work.
Who Is EMDR Rocks For?
The EMDR Rocks Consultation Group is designed for therapists who:
- Have completed an EMDR training program
- Are working toward EMDRIA Certification
- Want ongoing professional consultation
- Are seeking a supportive EMDR consultation community
- Wish to deepen their confidence when working with trauma and attachment-focused work
Therapists throughout Alberta and across Canada are welcome to participate.
Working Toward EMDRIA Certification?
EMDRIA Certification via the | EMDR Rocks Consultation Group
Working with trauma can be deeply rewarding—but it can also be complex. Consultation can also help therapists prepare for the certification process while continuing to develop their clinical skills and professional identity as EMDR therapists.
Consultation with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant can support clinicians in:
- Strengthening fidelity to the EMDR model
- Developing advanced case conceptualization skills
- Refining target selection and treatment planning
- Managing blocked or looping processing
- Applying the AIP Model more effectively
- Building confidence with increasingly complex clinical presentations
Please go to https://www.emdria.org/emdr-training/certification-faqs/ for more information on the specific requirements for EMDR certification.
Why Consultation Matters
Many therapists leave EMDR training feeling excited about the model but sometimes uncertain about how to apply it with more complex clients.
Consultation provides a place to:
- Refine clinical thinking
- Strengthen treatment planning
- Receive support with challenging cases
- Improve confidence using all eight phases of EMDR therapy
- Develop greater flexibility in responding to client needs
- Grow as a trauma-informed clinician
Whether your goal is certification or simply becoming a stronger EMDR therapist, consultation groups can significantly accelerate professional growth.
What We Focus on During Consultation the EMDR Therapist Growth Path
Learning the Model
Following EMDR training, therapists begin learning how to apply the eight phases of EMDR therapy while developing a deeper understanding of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model.
Consultation helps bridge the gap between training and real-world clinical application.
Building Confidence
As therapists begin applying EMDR in practice, questions often arise regarding:
- Target selection
- Treatment planning
- Blocking beliefs
- Cognitive interweaves
- When to resource versus process
Consultation helps clinicians strengthen judgment and clinical flexibility.
Consultation supports clinicians in adapting EMDR thoughtfully and safely for more complex presentations.
As confidence grows, therapists often begin working with:
- Attachment trauma
- Childhood trauma
- Dissociation
- Betrayal trauma
- Complex PTSD
- Relational trauma
If you are enthusiastic about couples’ work, this consultation group can help you develop advanced EMDR-informed skills for working with relational trauma, attachment injuries, and the following presenting concerns:
Benefits of Group Consultation
Many clinicians discover that group consultation provides benefits beyond individual consultation.
Benefits may include:
- Learning from the experiences of other therapists
- Exposure to diverse trauma presentations
- Increased confidence using EMDR with complex clients
- Enhanced clinical reasoning
- Ongoing professional support
- Connection with a community of trauma-focused clinicians
For many therapists, consultation becomes one of the most valuable components of their professional development. Consultation can support therapists as they continue developing their professional identity and advanced clinical skills.
Who Can Participate?
EMDR consultation is available to regulated mental health professionals who are legally authorized to practice within their province or territory.
Participants may include:
- Registered Psychologists
- Provisional Psychologists
- Registered Social Workers
- Clinical Social Workers
- Canadian Certified Counsellors
- Mental Health Therapists
- Marriage and Family Therapists
Participants are responsible for ensuring EMDR therapy falls within their professional scope of practice and regulatory requirements.
Small Group Size
Why a Small Consultation Group?
EMDR Rocks is intentionally limited to just four participants per group.
Unlike larger consultation groups where time can be limited, a small group allows every participant meaningful opportunity to present cases, ask questions, receive feedback, and engage in discussion.
With only four clinicians, participants receive help from:
- More individualized consultation and support
- Greater opportunities for case conceptualization and feedback
- Increased confidence in applying EMDR with complex cases
- Stronger professional relationships and peer support
- A collaborative learning environment where every voice matters
The result is a consultation experience that is engaging, supportive, and clinically rich—helping therapists deepen their EMDR skills while building confidence and competence in their practice.
Consultation Rates
Consultation fees are based on the recommended fee schedule of the Psychologists Association of Alberta; are reviewed regularly and are aligned with professional consultation rates within Alberta.
